💭 Reflection

The book of Job is an inexhaustible source of wisdom. In the midst of his suffering and confusion, Job understood something devastating: "God is holy... I am man... who can unite us?" He knew that before God he was completely exposed, marked as a sinner and guilty. Then, from the depths of his broken soul, he cries out desperately: "There is no arbiter between us!".

The Reina-Valera 1960 version translates the Hebrew word Mokíaj (מוֹכִיחַ) as "arbiter": someone with authority to correct, decide between two parties, and reconcile a dispute. In the Hebrew mindset, "to lay a hand on both" meant having authority before God and, at the same time, understanding the fragility of man.

The answer to that cry took centuries to arrive. The Greeks understood this figure as the Mesites (reconciler), someone who advocated for a cause and removed anger between estranged parties. The Romans saw him as a Guarantor: if someone had an unpayable debt to justice, another man could say, "I will answer for him." If the debtor failed, the guarantor paid with his life.

Job asked for an arbiter... the Greeks spoke of a reconciler... the Romans imagined a guarantor... But God responded by sending Jesus Christ! He is the only Mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5). As true God, He represents the Father; as true man, He knows our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15). Christ presented Himself before the Father with His own blood and said, "I pay their debt." Today, no matter what your sin or your pain, you have the best Advocate interceding for you.

Oración del día

"Heavenly Father, I recognize that my sin had separated me from You and that I could not pay my own debt. Thank You for responding to the cry of humanity by sending Jesus as my Arbitrator, my Reconciler, and my Surety. Today I present my case before You, knowing that Christ intercedes for me. In Jesus' name, Amen."
