"John 8:11 — 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.'"
🌱 Introduction
If there is a God, why is there so much evil in the world? Every day we hear about wars, crime, abuse, and injustice. Why doesn't God stop it? The answer is in His Word.
John 8:11 — "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."
1️⃣ God created man for good (Genesis 1:31)
Everything God made was very good. But man was not created like a robot: he has a conscience and free will. There are only two paths — good and evil — and each has consequences.
Deuteronomy 30:15: "See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil."
2️⃣ Evil is the absence of God
God did not create evil. Man chose it (John 3:19). Darkness does not exist as such — it is the absence of light. In the same way, evil is the absence of God.
James 4:1-2 reveals the root: "Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?" Wars, diseases, and evils are born from a human heart separated from God.
3️⃣ God forbids evil — and warns of the consequences
God gave clear commandments: You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal (Exodus 20). Isaiah 1:16 says: "Cease to do evil." Isaiah 55:7 promises: "Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him."
Many question God but are incapable of restraining their own evil.
4️⃣ God prevents evil — and says: Sin no more!
When Jesus heals, it is not so you can continue in the same ways:
- John 5:14: To the paralytic at Bethesda: "Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you."
- John 8:11: To the adulterous woman: "Go and sin no more."
- Romans 6:12: "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body."
God's forgiveness comes with a warning: mercy is not a license to sin. It is like an abused woman who files a lawsuit; justice protects her, but she returns to her abuser. Is God to blame for that?
🙏 Prayer of the Day
💪 Concrete Action
- Examine: What sin do you keep going back to after being forgiven?
- Confess: Bring it before God with honesty.
- Turn Away: Make a practical decision today — cut off access, break the cycle, seek help.
- Declare: "Today I receive God's forgiveness and I decide not to return to sin."
Prayer of the day
"Lord Jesus, I confess that I have sinned and returned to the very thing that destroys me. Thank you for your mercy. Today I decide to obey you: I turn away from evil and follow you. Strengthen me so I don't turn back. In your name, Amen."
