"Genesis 22:6 — 'Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together.'"
📖 Key Text
"Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together." (Genesis 22:6)
💭 Reflection
Isaac was the child of the promise — born when it was humanly impossible. Abraham was 100 years old, and Sarah was 90. God proved that when He promises, He delivers.
But Isaac was not only the child of the promise. He was the child of obedience. When God asked Abraham to offer him as a sacrifice, Isaac carried his own wood on his shoulders, exactly as Christ carried His Cross centuries later.
Isaac was no longer a little boy. He was a strong young man who could have resisted. Abraham was an old man. But look at what the Scripture says: "He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood" (Genesis 22:9). Isaac did not resist.
Why? Because faith produces something supernatural. When a person possesses true faith, their surrender and submission are unparalleled. Isaac suspected what was going to happen — he asked: "Where is the lamb?" — but he kept walking with his father.
The Bible says in Hebrews 5:8-9: "Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him."
Isaac learned obedience through what he suffered. Christ perfected that obedience on the Cross. And what about you? How far does your obedience go?
