"Genesis 3:7-10"

Before Sin: The Freedom That Was Lost

To understand the devastation caused by shame, we must first look at the state in which God created humanity. When Adam saw Eve for the first time, his reaction was pure admiration. They were naked and felt no shame. That unashamed nakedness was not naivety—it was holiness. It was the image of God functioning perfectly in man: no guilt to cover, no wound to hide, no mask to uphold.

The Moment Everything Changed (Genesis 3:7)

Genesis 3:7 is one of the most tragic verses: «Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked.» Shame is a deep feeling of humiliation and discomfort born from the awareness of our sin and inadequacy. It doesn't just attack actions; it attacks our very being.

Physical and Spiritual Nakedness

The first reaction was to cover the body ("they sewed fig leaves together"). This is the human solution to sin: patch it, cover it, hide it. But there was a deeper nakedness no leaf could cover: the broken fellowship with God. When they heard the voice of the Lord, they hid.

Human Reactions and God's Response

Man hides and fears. Sin is always practiced in secret, but the day it is discovered, shame arises. Humanity fears what others will say more than eternal judgment.

But God did not leave them with fig leaves: He made garments of skin (Genesis 3:21). This was the first blood sacrifice, pointing directly to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. Christ was sacrificed to remove our shame before God forever.

Prayer of the day

"Heavenly Father, today I recognize that I have carried shame that does not belong to me. Thank You for sending Your Son to clothe me with grace and forgiveness. I renounce covering myself with my own works and receive the freedom Christ gives me. In Jesus' name, amen."
