Bible Reading
"Psalm 95:6 — 'Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.'"
Key Scripture
"Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand." (Psalm 95:6-7)
Reflection
Psalm 95 does not suggest worshiping God — it commands it. Come. Let us worship. Let us bow down. Three imperatives in one verse. It is not a polite invitation to consider worship as an option. It is a mandate from the King.
The Hebrew word for "let us worship" is שָׁחָה (shachah): to bow down deeply, to prostrate oneself before the deity, to declare total loyalty. And "let us bow down" is כָּרַע (kara): to bend the knee, to surrender completely. These are not poetic metaphors. They are physical positions that express spiritual realities.
In the Tabernacle of Israel, the altar of burnt offering burned with a fire that could never be extinguished. God repeated it three times in two verses (Leviticus 6:12-13): "It shall not go out... it shall not go out... it shall not go out." Not in winter. Not at night. Not when the priest was exhausted. The fire was continuous.
And the incense in Exodus 30:34-36 was so sacred that God declared it exclusively for Himself: "You shall not make any for yourselves, according to its composition. It shall be to you holy for the Lord." The aroma belonged only to God.
What does this teach us? That worship is not for special moments. It is not just for when there is good music, or when life is going well, or when we feel like it. The fire of worship must burn continually.
Romans 12:1 connects everything: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service." The Greek phrase λογικὴν λατρείαν (logikēn latreian) means worship of the whole being — not a weekly moment of emotion, but a life presented before God as a daily offering.
And 2 Corinthians 2:15 reveals the promise: "For we are to God the fragrance of Christ." Like the incense that rose from the Tabernacle, our worshiping life ascends before the Father as a pleasing fragrance. We are the aroma of Christ.
Prayer
Action of the Day
Before checking your phone this morning: stop for 5 minutes and worship God out loud. Don't ask for anything. Just declare who He is. Let us shout joyfully to Him, as Psalm 95 says. That is the first fire of the day — and it must not go out.

Prayer of the day
"Father, today I come to bow my knees before You. Not as a ritual, but as a declaration: You are my priority. May the fire of my worship burn without going out. In Jesus' name. Amen."
