SEXUAL IDENTITY CRISIS IN THE FAMILY
Base Text: Genesis 1:27
"And God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Genesis 1:27)
INTRODUCTION
There is nothing new under the sun, says Ecclesiastes. Everything we are seeing today in terms of sexual confusion, loss of identity and depravity has already existed before. But there is something that is new: the speed with which it spreads and the lack of leadership in homes to confront it.
We are seeing a deterioration in human relations never seen before. Mental health is at worrying levels. Generations are suffering consequences of aberrations that are normalized every day. And all this has a root: home.
The roots of the sexual problem do not come from outside. They come from the family. From the family background, from the abuse, from the loss of identity that occurs from home, helped by the deterioration of culture, viral fashions and the lack of leadership in the home.
They are bombs that are destroying the family.
I. HISTORY REPEATS: FROM CREATION TO DEPRAVITY
A. The Pre-Flood Generation
"And the Lord saw that the wickedness of men was great in the land, and that every imagination of the thoughts of their heart was only evil continually." (Genesis 6:5)
God observed a generation so depraved that the only solution was the flood. The sexual depravity was so exacerbated that God determined to send judgment. And there was no internet. There were no social networks, no television, nor any implement that promoted evil. The mind of man, by itself, is depraved.
B. Sodom and Gomorrah: The Capital of Evil
After the flood, God redistributes humanity through Noah. But the population grew again and Sodom and Gomorrah arose, a nation so terrible that God had to exterminate it under fire.
"They had not yet gone to bed, when the men of the city, the men of Sodom, all the people together, from the youngest to the oldest, surrounded the house, and called Lot, and said to him, Where are the men who came to you this night? Bring them out, that we may know them." (Genesis 19:4-5)
From the children to the oldest, the identity that God established had been lost. Perversion was ageless.
C. Lot's Daughters: When Culture Destroys Identity
"Come, let us give our father wine to drink, and let us sleep with him, and keep offspring from our father." (Genesis 19:32)
Two young women who grew up in Sodom, saturated with a depraved culture, committed incest with their own father. Where did this situation come from? From the family. Lot led his family to live in evil, his wife did not heed God's call, and the daughters lost all sense of identity.
II. THE ORIGIN OF THE CRISIS: THE FAMILY
A. Family is the Base of Everything
Everything that happens in the family defines our identity. We copy from the family economic problems, waste, love of work or irresponsibility, lack of authority. The family is the basis of society, and Satan knows it.
If you destroy the family and raise confusing ideologies, you are giving information so that the true identity is lost.
B. The Four Causes of Identity Crisis
- Absence of love and affection at home
- Absence of paternal and maternal leadership
- Unfiltered influence of social networks and culture
- Lack of Bible teaching at home
There is a satanic plan behind all this. Many of the viral phenomena are paid actors with the purpose of creating a trend. But it works because there is a loss of identity in the family. Teenagers and pre-teens, when they see what is "fashionable" and have no basis at home, they copy it.
C. Why Is The Enemy Winning?
It is not that Satan is more powerful than God. There is no leadership in the house. The father is not fulfilling his role. The mother is not fulfilling her role. We are not helping our tweens understand who they are.
Children today are not sociable. They spend hours locked in their room, in the dark: "Respect my privacy." And parents allow it because "it is in a training process." Yes, Satan is training them, because the training process has to be carried out by the father and mother.
III. THE IDENTITY THAT GOD ESTABLISHED
A. God Created Male and Female — Period.
"And God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Genesis 1:27)
God did not create 21 genders, nor 100, nor the number of categories that have been invented. Male and female. Two. The image that God stamped on man was the ability to judge, to procreate, to have dominion. And in that imprint, God placed an identity that cannot be changed, violated or erased, no matter how many experiments one wants to do.
B. Genetic Imprinting is Undeniable
There is a genetic norm that marks the fetus as male or female. You don't need to be a scientist to know that. But for this reality to crystallize in the human being, parents need to help him understand what it is.
He may be born a boy, but he will need his parents to teach him what it means to be a boy. A father and a mother have the responsibility of reinforcing the identity that God has already placed.
C. David Understood His Identity
"For you formed my inward parts; you made me in my mother's womb. I will praise you; because your works are wonderful and wonderful; I am amazed, and my soul knows it very well. My body was not hidden from you, although I was formed in secret, and woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes have seen my embryo." (Psalm 139:13-16)
God is the first one who gives us an identity. Nobody was born by chance. God has a purpose with every life, no matter what.
IV. THE THREE PILLARS OF IDENTITY
1. The Family (The Role of the Father and the Mother)
The family is the primary model that God placed to establish identity. Parents are the ones who provide the model. If there is no biblical model at home, children will look for identity elsewhere.
2. Lived Situations and Culture
Everything that happens around us — experiences, problems, fashions, social networks — helps build the question: Who am I? Teenagers who spend hours on TikTok are being formed by algorithms, not by their parents.
3. Inherited Genetics
We inherit physical traits, temperament, character. But genetics do not define your spiritual destiny. Jacob was marked by a name that meant "supplanter", but God changed it to Israel: prince of God. The only one who can transform what is inherited is God.
V. THE BIBLICAL RESPONSIBILITY OF PARENTS
"Hear, Israel: Jehovah our God, Jehovah is one. And you will love Jehovah your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words that I command you today will be on your heart; and you will repeat them to your children, and you will speak of them while you are in your house, and when you walk on the road, and when you lie down, and when you get up." (Deuteronomy 6:4-7)
God did not say, "I am going to teach your children." He said: "You are going to repeat them." The word "repeat" in Hebrew means to sharpen, to grind. It is constant, daily, intentional work.
If parents teach them the things of God, their children will love His way. If you don't teach them, your children will hate what God has taught them.
Children Learn by Example and Assimilation
We have mirror neurons that make us copy what we see. If parents fight all day, children will understand that this is how life works. If the father treats the woman badly, the child will learn that this is how women should be treated.
What parents model becomes the emotional programming of their children.
VI. THE REAL DANGER: AN ANECDOTE THAT ILLUSTRATES
A rough, peasant man, he raised his first son roughly but with closeness. They played rough, they got along well. But the second child was born with a different, more sensitive character. He didn't like roughhousing. The mother, trying to protect him, began to isolate the father from the son.
When that boy became a preteen, he was left alone with a cousin. They had sexual games. And that's where the identity diversion began.
Whose fault was it? Everyone's. The father could have changed his treatment according to the child's character, but he should never have isolated himself. The mother should not have separated the son from his father. A father who isolates himself from his children will create an identity problem.
⚠️ Sisters: when the man wants to talk to the children and teach them, let him. His children need to listen to dad's authority.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
-
What are you modeling in your home? Love, respect and fear of God? Or conflict, aggression and neglect?
-
How many hours do your children spend in front of a screen without supervision? And how many hours do you dedicate to teaching them the Word?
-
Is there an active father figure in your home? A father cannot isolate himself from his children. Paternal closeness is fundamental for identity.
-
Are you allowing YouTube, Disney, TikTok, and social media to educate your children? Behind every unfiltered content is a purpose of identity deflection.
-
What would you do if your child told you "I feel like a dog" or "I feel like a girl"? Do you have the biblical tools to guide you, or would you react violently without knowing what to do?
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Concrete Steps to Protect the Identity of Your Children:
-
Establish a daily Bible teaching time at home. Deuteronomy 6 says morning, afternoon, and night. It is not negotiable.
-
Father: be actively involved in parenting. Don't delegate everything to the mother. Your children need your presence, your voice and your authority.
-
Mother: do not isolate the father from the children. Although your method is not perfect, your children need that figure. Respect the line of authority.
-
Monitor your children's digital content. Know what they watch, who they talk to, what they follow. You rule your house, not them.
-
Take your children to Sunday school. Early spiritual formation is a barrier against identity confusion.
-
Treat your spouse as the Bible commands. Man: treat your wife as a fragile vessel. Woman: Respect your husband's manhood. Your children are watching.
-
Do not react with violence to a child's confusion. This matter requires going to the Bible and understanding what to do to guide him or her in the will of the Lord.
CONCLUSION
The sexual identity crisis in the family has clear causes:
- Lack of paternal and maternal leadership.
- Absence of Bible teaching at home.
- Uncontrolled influence of culture and social networks.
- Emotional isolation between parents and children.
But God gave a solution from the beginning: Male and female he created them. And he placed in each human being a genetic imprint that Satan cannot change.
The responsibility is ours as parents. As a church we cannot walk away from this discussion. We need to change our behaviors, improve, be the example. Because the Lord brought us here to bless our family, our house, our children.
If you have had problems in the past, God wants you to be different now. Don't live in the past anymore. You can change things from here on out.
"Lord, heal my wounds. Heal what is wrong in me. I need you."
