Do Not Run from God

Today I want to talk to you about a fundamental topic: do not run from God. Because when we run from Him, we only prolong our pain and push away the blessings He has prepared for us.

The Story of Jonah

The Bible shows us the case of Jonah, the prophet who ran from God. When the Lord said to him: 'Go to Nineveh and preach', Jonah decided to go in the opposite direction, toward Tarshish. Why do we run from God? Because His calling makes us uncomfortable. He asks us to let go of control, face our sins, and forgive those who hurt us.

But Jonah discovered that you cannot hide from God. On the ship, a storm caught up with him. The sailors cast lots and discovered he was the cause of the problem. Jonah ended up in the belly of a great fish for three days. There, in the darkness and despair, he finally prayed and acknowledged that 'salvation comes from the Lord'.

How many times have you been in your own 'belly of the fish'? That difficult situation you cannot escape. God allows these circumstances to bring us back to Him. He is not punishing you; He is preparing you for something greater.

The Lesson of Noah: The Ark Without a Rudder

Now think of Noah. God saw that the earth was corrupt (Genesis 6:12-16) and told him: 'Build an ark'. But here is the important detail: Noah's ark had no rudder. It had no oars, no steering mechanism. Noah built exactly as God instructed, without adding human control mechanisms.

For 120 years, Noah built while preaching. His neighbors mocked him, but he persevered in obedience. When the waters rose, the ark floated without human direction. God steered it. This is a powerful lesson: build without controlling, trust without seeing.

In your life, are you trying to force a 'rudder' onto the ark God gave you? In your marriage, your work, your finances, are you trying to control everything? God invites you to trust in His sovereign direction.

You Cannot Run from His Presence

Psalm 139:7-10 asks us: 'Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?' The answer is clear: there is no place you can hide from God. His presence pursues you, not to condemn you, but to restore you.

Think also of Peter. After denying Jesus three times, he fled full of shame. But Jesus sought him out and asked: 'Do you love me?' He didn't condemn him; He restored him. That is how God is with you today.

Daily Practice: Release Control

This isn't just theory. It's to be lived every day. Every morning, say: 'Lord, today I place my life in Your hands. You are in control'. In the middle of traffic, in the office, at home with your kids, remember that God is steering.

For the one struggling with addictions: don't run to the bottle or drugs looking for an escape. Run to the ark of prayer and community.

For the single mother: don't try to build a family in your own strength. Trust that God will provide.

For the one facing a financial crisis: don't run into dangerous debt. Trust in God's provision.

Storms Shape Us

The storms of life are not punishment; they are loving correction. Jonah came out of the fish transformed. He finally went to Nineveh and preached, and the whole city repented. Noah came out of the ark to a renewed earth. God uses difficulties to shape you.

When you come out of your 'fish', you come out with a new dependence on God. You come out with a peace that surpasses understanding. You come out with a renewed purpose.

God Controls Everything

God steers the galaxies and He also steers your daily life. He provides your daily bread. Proverbs 3:5-6 says: 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight'.

Noah did it and was blessed. Jonah initially didn't and suffered, but when he surrendered, God used him powerfully. You decide today: will you keep running, or will you surrender to His will?

God's Calling For You

God is calling you today. Maybe He is calling you to forgive someone. Maybe He is calling you to leave a destructive habit. Maybe He is calling you to serve Him in ministry. Maybe He is calling you to trust Him with your finances or your health.

Do not run away. Do not take a ship to Tarshish. Go toward your Nineveh, that difficult place where God wants to use you. Build your ark without a rudder, trusting that He will steer it.

Remember: when you stop running, God finds you and transforms you. Salvation comes from the Lord.
