The Context of Wars in the End Times
The Lord Jesus Christ clearly warned us that in the last days we would hear of "wars and rumors of wars" (Matthew 24:6). Today, we not only see nations rising against nations, but we observe how local conflicts, especially in the Middle East, rapidly escalate into global tensions.
However, for the believer who studies prophecy, this is not a reason to panic, but a confirmation that the Word of God is being fulfilled to the letter.
1. The Origin of the Conflict: The Prophecy about Ishmael
To understand the current wars in Israel, Gaza, Syria, and Iran, reading today's news is not enough; we must open the book of Genesis. The conflict is over 4,000 years old.
Abraham had two sons representing two distinct lineages:
- Isaac: The child of the promise, through whom salvation (Jesus Christ) would come.
- Ishmael: The child born of the flesh (with Hagar), who became the father of the Arab peoples and, subsequently, of Islam.
The Bible prophesied the character and destiny of Ishmael's descendants:
"He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." - Genesis 16:12
The word in the original Hebrew for "wild donkey of a man" is Pere Adam, describing someone untamed, wild, and in constant conflict. This prophecy encapsulates the spiritual DNA of what we see today in radical Islamic ideology: an ideology that raises its hand against all of humanity (not just against Israel, but against the West and Christians) and lives in a constant state of war.
The Peaceful Nature vs. The Nature of War
King David, a descendant of Isaac, experienced this tension and expressed it in the Psalms when speaking of his enemies:
"I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war." - Psalms 120:7
2. Media Manipulation and the Battle for Truth
Today we live in a generation where social media dictates the "truth" through short, out-of-context videos (TikTok, Instagram).
The whole world, driven by progressive political currents, is being indoctrinated to hate Israel and defend radical movements. The news often shows only one side of the coin, systematically blaming Israel while omitting the atrocities committed by extremist groups that hide behind civilians.
As a church, our stance is not dictated by the news, but by the Bible. The Word warns us that in the end times, all nations will turn their backs on Israel.
3. The Three Wars of Final Judgment
The Bible describes that the climax of human history will be marked by three great global armed conflicts. It is crucial not to confuse them:
A. The War of Gog and Magog (Ezekiel 38)
- When does it happen? Probably just before or at the beginning of the Great Tribulation.
- Who participates? A coalition led by "Gog" (traditionally identified with Russia) along with Persia (Iran), Turkey, Libya, and other allied nations.
- The purpose: To invade the land of Israel to plunder it. However, God will supernaturally intervene to destroy these armies on the mountains of Israel, demonstrating His power to the world.
B. The Battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16)
- When does it happen? At the end of the 7 years of the Great Tribulation.
- Who participates? All the nations of the world, deceived by demonic spirits, will gather in the valley of Megiddo, in Israel.
- The purpose: The Antichrist will lead the armies of the world to fight directly against the Lamb (Jesus Christ). This war will end quickly when Christ visibly returns from heaven and destroys His enemies with the sword of His mouth.
C. The Post-Millennial War (Revelation 20)
- When does it happen? At the end of Jesus Christ's 1,000-year reign on earth.
- Who participates? Satan, who will be released from his prison for a short time, will again deceive the nations (symbolically called Gog and Magog) from the four corners of the earth.
- The purpose: Even after living a thousand years of perfect peace and justice under Christ's direct rule, fallen human nature and Satan's deception will raise one final rebellion. God will consume the rebels with fire from heaven, permanently closing the history of sin in the world.
Conclusion: What is our work as a Church?
While nations prepare for judgment and the youth of this generation are indoctrinated by ideologies contrary to God, the church cannot be asleep.
We are not here to be political commentators, we are in a spiritual war. Our mission is clear: to pray fervently for our families, preach the gospel to our youth, and be ready, because before the apocalyptic judgments fall on the earth, Jesus Christ will rapture His church.
"For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5:9)
