Introduction: The Forgotten Urgency of Eschatological Truth
Readers, listeners, and disciples across the globe love the Bible. It is the best-selling and most enduring book in human history. Millions draw from its pages promises of strength, comfort, and motivation to carry on. Yet there is another vital dimension of Scripture that many modern believers avoid because they find it terrifying: the solemn warning of God's prophetic clock.
The biblical message is clear: this rebellious world has an expiration date, and divine judgment approaches a creation that persists in rejecting its Creator. Some dismiss these warnings as "conspiracies," but the Word of God does not speculate—it reveals absolute truth.
Nearly two thousand years ago, the Apostle Paul wrote with piercing urgency that time was running out. Jesus warned that an end would surely come, and the Apostle John beheld the culmination of evil in the Book of Revelation. Yet the most sobering reality of our generation is that the Church is asleep in worldly complacency.
1. Christ Revealed Life and Judgment After Death
In ancient Israel, different understandings existed regarding the afterlife. Solomon wrote from the perspective of life "under the sun":
- Ecclesiastes 9:5: "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten."
- Certain groups isolate this verse to claim the soul sleeps or ceases to exist. However, this passage must be understood within the progressive revelation of Scripture, culminating in Christ’s explicit teachings on the resurrection and eternity.
- In the account of the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:23-24), Jesus lifted the veil: the dead retain consciousness, memory, torment, or comfort. Death is not the end of existence; it is the irrevocable entrance into eternity.
- 1 Corinthians 15:20: "But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept." Because Christ rose, every human being will stand before God.
2. The Prophetic Signs of Matthew 24
On the Mount of Olives, the disciples asked Jesus: "What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?" (Matthew 24:3). Jesus detailed eleven distinct markers:
- Deceptive spiritual movements and false teachers.
- Wars and persistent rumors of wars.
- Ethnic and geopolitical conflict.
- Severe famines.
- Global pestilences.
- Exponential increases in seismic activity.
- Rampant betrayal among peers.
- Escalating societal hatred.
- Spiritual apostasy.
- Multiplied iniquity.
- The love of many growing cold.
We see these realities fulfilled daily in headlines: the moral decay of Western culture, the rise of technological systems capable of global monitoring, and unprovoked hatred toward Israel. These are not political accidents; they are the groans of a world approaching divine closure.
Conclusion: It Is High Time to Awake
Many believers say: "I prefer not to watch the news; I just want peace." But ignoring reality does not stop the prophetic clock. God gives warning so that we may find refuge in Christ.
As Paul exhorted in Romans 13:11:
"And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed."
Lay aside spiritual slumber, take up the armor of light, and live prepared for the coming of the King.
